Ballinkeele House
|
|
When you enter Ballinkeele you drive through the old cast iron half moon gates and continue up the very long sweeping avenue, past the mature trees and the old granite and stone stable and onto the house you pass on the right the laundry pond and shortly after at the house. It is a large mansion with Wicklow granite Port Cochere this is of course for the coach and four to stop and let off the family or guests. You then enter the large hall with the fire lighting, to welcome you.
You are then shown the drawing rooms of which there are two; the larger
has the original wall-paper remade by David Skinner. It is a large pattern,
but soft to look at and when this was done we had the ceiling and woodwork
done at the same time and regilded. It is a very relaxing room with the
sun entering it almost all day. The small drawing room is the formal morning
room, and more in keeping with the You then go into the bright hall with its mini grand piano as well as Irish and American pictures on the walls. As you walk up the stairs you may notice the family crest on the banister supports and the steps are made of sandstone ... and do not creak. The master bedroom has its original four poster bed but with a modern comfortable mattress. From here you have a 45 degree view of the garden, lake and the farmland as well as a bathroom en-suite with bath and shower. The blue bedroom has views towards the village, to the fields and the garden at the rear of the house. It has a lovely half canopy bed that can be changed to twin beds and also has a bathroom with shower and bath en-suite.
Guests at Ballinkeele have the use of the garden for croquet or walking and we are currently working on the walled gardens. The lake will be stocked with fish for course fishing and for those that would like to enjoy a cycle around, we have and two ladies and gents bikes available. When walking on and around the farm we also have wellington boots for guests use.
