Enniscoe House
The house is on the shores of Lough Conn, with attractive views of the lake across the parkland. The old walled garden is being restored and another garden produces organically grown vegetables. Outbuildings contain a small agricultural museum and a genealogy centre that researches names and families of Mayo origin. The fishery manager can make all arrangements for trout and salmon fishing in the area; tuition is a speciality. Three golf courses and riding stables are within easy reach. The house is a good base for touring Mayo and Sligo. The three large bedrooms at the front of the house have canopy or four poster beds, and views of the parkland and lake. The bedrooms in the older part of the house have garden views and are less grand, however Karen Brown's Guide says they are "just as lovely" and particularly recommends the old nursery "with half tester and twin beds, and comfortable chintz chairs".
The historic courtyard buildings, adjoining Enniscoe House, have been carefully restored and converted into farmhouse style self-catering apartments, whilst retaining the courtyard's original architectural features and appearance. The two-storey self-catering apartments have been refurbished to Irish Tourist Board standards. They are simple and traditional in style, nevertheless very comfortable with modern facilities and open fireplaces. Idyllically set in woodland surroundings, the two and three bedroom self-catering apartments are available for hire throughout the year.
