Railway
Lodge is an exceptional country home, in the heart of Western Ireland's
Connemara mountainous region. It takes its name from the nearby disused
Galway to Clifden railway which closed in 1936. It was 60 years later, in
1996, that the Lodge was built for the proprietor, Carmel Geoghegan, on
a plot within her family's farm. Her father, Paddy, lives near-by and breeds
the famous Connemara Ponies as his father did before him.
The spacious interior of this carefully designed country home has been exquisitely furnished to perfectly combine modern convenience with old Irish style. Each bedroom has modern en-suite facilities as well as orthopaedic beds. It also has a traditional relaxed ambiance with its two log fires contained in cast iron fireplaces, polished wooden floors, antique pine furniture and pure Irish linen.
The cosy sitting room and bright conservatory are comfortable places to relax after traveling or to enjoy afternoon tea with some of Carmel's famous home made bread. The rear of the home looks out over Cloosh Mountains and scenery from these windows is difficult to beat! The traditional Irish welcome and service is the other exceptional quality of Railway Lodge Country Home- from Carmel's unbeatable Irish breakfasts and home-baked breads, fresh squeezed orange juice, organic home-mixtures of museli to the plush bedding and towels adorning each sunny room. Railway Cottage: Railway Cottage is the perfect addition to Railway Lodge carrying on its same style, peaceful ambiance and exceptional comfort. Polished wooden floors, antique pine furniture and pure Irish linen are used throughout.
Enjoy Carmel's warm welcome with the added privacy of your own cottage. Railway Cottage is completely self-contained with its own kitchen, sitting room, double bedroom and en-suite bathroom. The kitchen contains all the comforts of home: cooker & hob, dishwasher and washer & dryer. For longer stays, enjoy cooking for yourself- though Carmel always stocks the basics (coffee/ tea, milk, farm-fresh eggs, etc.) along with some of her home-baked breads from the Lodge! TV & DVD player are also installed in the cottage sitting room for those rainy days.
